About Animal Science And Dairy Science
Initially this section was established with Surti buffaloes and Red Sindhi cows. However, for increasing the productivity, the poor productive livestock was replaced by crossbred cows Phule Triveni and pure breed of Pandharpuri buffaloes. This section has also established a small barn of Osmanabadi goat to impart the education to undergraduate students. A Vermi Compost unit is also started to impart the training to students as well as young enthusiastic farmers. The milking system in crossbreeds cows and buffaloes is updated by starting machine milking. This system is very important for production of clean and hygienic milk production.
The regular practices of culling the uneconomical animals, mastitis detection and its treatments, heat detection, vaccination for H.S., B.Q., tuberculosis brucellosis etc. are done. The old byres are being repaired and duly got painted. To avoid the summer sterility in buffaloes, body-cooling system i.e. foggers in the buffalo as well as cattle byres is installed during the year 2003-2004. The laboratory of dairy technology and animal nutrition is well equipped and developed with required facilities. Most of the milk products are being prepared during the practical of dairy technology with the help of advanced machinery like Khoa machine, butter churner, Ice-cream machine, softy ice-cream machine, Lassi making machine, Panner mould machine etc. The fat estimation of milk is regularly done with the help of Electronic fat testing machine viz., Milko-Tester.
The lecture hall is updated with advanced teaching aids like OHP, slide projectors, computer, etc. The teaching aids like charts, photographs, models are made available to the students.
